Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 18, 2026 · Applies to the SSHMount app and the sshmount.it website
1. Who we are (Data Controller)
SSHMount is developed and published by PlayAroundCode (“we”, “us”), based in Italy. For anything related to this policy or to your personal data you can contact us at support@sshmount.it.
This policy covers two things: the SSHMount macOS application distributed through the Mac App Store, and the sshmount.it website. It is written to comply with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR, Regulation (EU) 2016/679), the ePrivacy rules, and Apple's App Store requirements.
2. Data handled by the SSHMount app
2.1 What the app stores — locally, on your device only
- Connection profiles (server name, hostname/IP, port, username, tags, notes): stored in a local database on your Mac (
~/Library/Application Support/SSHMount/). They are never transmitted to us or to any third party. - Passwords and private-key passphrases: stored exclusively in the macOS Keychain, Apple's encrypted system credential store. They are never written to disk in plaintext and never leave your device. Deleting a profile also deletes its credentials from the Keychain.
- Known host keys (server fingerprints you have chosen to trust): stored locally.
- Diagnostic logs: SSHMount writes technical logs locally on your Mac to help you troubleshoot. They are never transmitted anywhere; you can view, export or delete them at any time from within the app.
2.2 What the app collects and sends to us
Nothing. The app contains no analytics or telemetry frameworks, no advertising SDKs, no crash reporters operated by us, and no third-party SDKs that collect data. We have no servers the app talks to, and no user accounts exist.
2.3 Network connections
The app opens network connections only when you tell it to: SSH and SFTP connections to the servers you configure. The content of those sessions flows directly, encrypted, between your Mac and your server. We are not a party to those connections and cannot see them.
2.4 Apple
SSHMount is distributed through the Mac App Store. Apple may process data related to your purchase/download and, only if you opted in at the operating-system level, may share anonymized crash reports with us. Apple acts as an independent data controller for that processing — see Apple's Privacy Policy.
3. Data handled by the sshmount.it website
3.1 No cookies, no trackers
This website sets no cookies, uses no analytics services, no advertising, no social-media widgets and no third-party fonts or CDNs. Every asset is served from our own server. For this reason no cookie banner is shown — there is nothing to consent to.
3.2 Server logs
Like virtually every web server, ours may process technical data of each request (IP address, requested URL, timestamp, user-agent) for the sole purposes of operating the site securely and diagnosing malfunctions. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in running a secure service (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). These logs are kept for a maximum of 14 days and then deleted, unless they must be retained longer to investigate an attack or as required by law.
4. Support email
If you write to support@sshmount.it, we process the personal data you provide (your email address and the content of your message) only to answer you. Legal basis: taking steps at your request (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) and our legitimate interest in providing support (Art. 6(1)(f)). Support correspondence is deleted at the latest 24 months after the ticket is closed.
5. Summary of processing
| Context | Data | Purpose | Legal basis | Retention |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SSHMount app | None collected by us | — | — | Local data stays on your device under your control |
| Website logs | IP, URL, timestamp, user-agent | Security & operation | Legitimate interest | Max 14 days |
| Support email | Email address, message content | Answering your request | Contract / legitimate interest | Max 24 months |
6. Sharing, selling and transfers
We do not sell, rent or share personal data with anyone. We do not transfer personal data outside the European Economic Area. Our web server is operated by us; hosting providers acting on our behalf, if any, are bound by data-processing agreements under Art. 28 GDPR.
7. Your rights under the GDPR
Where we process personal data about you (in practice: server logs and support emails), you have the right to:
- access your data and obtain a copy (Art. 15);
- rectify inaccurate data (Art. 16);
- erasure — the “right to be forgotten” (Art. 17);
- restriction of processing (Art. 18);
- data portability (Art. 20);
- object to processing based on legitimate interest (Art. 21).
To exercise any of these rights, email support@sshmount.it. We will respond within one month. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, in particular the Italian Data Protection Authority (Garante per la protezione dei dati personali) or the authority of your country of residence.
Note: all data created by the SSHMount app (profiles, credentials, logs) is stored on your device under your exclusive control. You can view, modify and delete it at any time from within the app or by deleting the app and its data.
8. Children
SSHMount is a professional tool not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone, including minors. The Mac App Store rating applies.
9. Security
The app relies on macOS security primitives: the Keychain for credentials, App Sandbox and Hardened Runtime for process isolation, and SSH's own encryption for everything in transit. The website is served exclusively over HTTPS (TLS).
10. Changes to this policy
If we ever change how SSHMount or this website handle data, we will update this page and its “Last updated” date before the change takes effect. Material changes affecting the app will also be noted in the App Store release notes.
